6061 Aluminum Properties and Introduction
6061 aluminum is a widely used wrought aluminum alloy, belonging to the 6xxx series (Al-Mg-Si alloys). Its yield strength ranges from 110-145 MPa, tensile strength is 205-310 MPa, and material density is 2.70 g/cm³. The “6061” is the alloy designation, where the first digit “6” indicates it is part of the Al-Mg-Si alloy series, and the following digits represent specific alloying element proportions and processing characteristics. The datasheet is typically tested with 12mm thickness plates. The latest standard for 6061 aluminum is ASTM B209/B209M – 24, covering chemical composition, mechanical properties, and equivalents, with details provided in the following tables.
6061 Material Features and Applications
